Millie Odhiambo Mabona is in the limelight again for her outrageous behavior. She vehemently insulted the Mr. President during the special Parliamentary session held in the parliament buildings. But do Kenyans really know who Millie Odhiambo is?. Let’s get a gist of her Lifestory.
Millie Odhiambo aka Akoth, signifies that she was born while it was raining. She testifies that it always rained on her birthday. Millie Odhiambo was born in a small then dusty town in the Homa Bay Town, by the seashore of the Lake Victoria. She was given two Christian names Millie and Grace, by her mother, a staunch Christian who believed in God’s ways.
Millie is the fourth born child to the late Harrison Odhiambo of Rusinga Island and the late Damaris Auma Odhiambo. She also strongly believes that she is a chip off the old block, having inherited her and interest in the rights of the vulnerable from her mother, protecting the poor and marginalized; The politics she gets from her father who served as the Member for the Legislative Assembly for Nyanza. He died in a boating accident while campaigning for an elected seat as MP for Mbita constituency, the same constituency represented by Millie today.

Millie Odhiambo has been a very strong party member of ODM, and a loyal supporter of Hon Raila Amollo Odinga. Millie has been described variously in the political arena as: brazen, bold, brave, confrontational, bold, spirited, fearless, outspoken, outstanding, loud or leader. Whatever description you may give her, what is clear is she spares no punches and is no push over.
She has cut out a alcove as a fearless and an impenitent defender of women and children’s rights. This has sometimes landed her in trouble. During a parliamentary debate gone wrong on the 18th of December 2015 on the infamous “Security Laws (Amendment) Bill” Millie claimed that she was bodily assaulted and sexually beleaguered by some male politicians. Any other woman politician in a country that is seen as largely traditional and patriarchal, may have shied away from speaking the same, but not Millie. Instead, she went ahead and posted on her Facebook that when two male MPs tried to undress her, “She completed the job for them”.
The post isn’t only going viral, but spurred frenzied debates on whether she was correct or mistaken and whether indeed she was attacked.
