A teacher in Kericho town is spending the weekend in a police cell after he was arrested on Friday, November 25, inside a posh hotel in the town.
It is reported that the teacher was nabbed after Kericho county security agents and education officers raided a hotel in the town and found the teacher with 90 students.
The teacher who is yet to be identified was found conducting illegal holiday tuition inside the hotel.
“We cannot allow private tuition taking place at a time when students are supposed to be at home with their parents,” County Commissioner Muktar Abdi said as quoted by Tuko.
According to Abdi, the students found in the hotel included young girls aged below 15 years.
He went on to point out that some of those individuals behind the illegal holiday tuition are unqualified and only want to fleece parents out of their money.
Reports also indicate that Kericho county officials are on high alert, and are hunting down teachers who are committing the offence.
The government banned holiday tuition several years ago but sly tutors are conducting illegal meet ups with students.
